Saline Symphony Orchestra Special Programs

As the Saline Symphony Orchestra grows, development of special programs are available to the Central Arkansas community we serve. You'll find descriptions of each of these special programs below, including scholarship opportunities.

These are just some of the programs the Saline Symphony Orchestra supports in their mission to provide educational and performance opportunities for deserving musicians. Your donation matters to us!

Play with the SSO

In the spring semester, musicians younger than high school age may apply to perform on a select piece with the Saline Symphony Orchestra for the spring concert. This is an excellent opportunity for young musicians to feel what it's like to perform in a large group of experienced musicians. There is no cost involved for the student, but they must have at least two years of playing experience, and must complete an application and submit it with a recommendation from their teacher. Private instructors are included in recommendations. Check back here and follow us on Facebook for updates regarding our "Play with the SSO" program. Application deadline is March 31, 2025.

Music Camp Scholarships

The Saline Symphony Orchestra is pleased to once again offer music camp scholarships to student musicians who either reside in Saline County, Arkansas or participate in the orchestra itself. Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who complete an application, provide a brief essay, and are recommneded by their music instructor. Awarded scholarships in amounts up to $385 will be paid directly to the chosen Arkansas-based music camps for scholarship winners. Application deadline is March 17, 2025.

Salty River Ragtime Syndicate (SRRS)

The Salty River Ragtime Syndicate (SRRS) is a mixed ensemble formed by members of the Saline Symphony Orchestra in Summer 2024, and acts as an outreach satellite group to help meet the missions of the orchestra, including playing at events in the community.

We play Ragtime, Dixieland, and New Orleans jazz among other styles. We seek opportunities to share music with our community. The SRRS is available for bookings in the Central Arkansas area; any donations accepted by the SRRS is donated to the Saline Symphony Orchestra's general fund for ongoing programs and operations.

Saline Symphony Orchestra Strings (SSO Strings)

The Saline Symphony Orchestra Strings (SSO Strings) is a satelite group of string players who choose themed or more difficult repertoire to challenge themselves while acting as an outreach of the orchestra. The SSO Strings have appeared at various community events over the years, as well as playing special selections in addition to the full orchestra's repertoire during concert events.
