The Saline Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra located in Bryant, Arkansas, and is growing in ability and numbers. The group currently consists of approximately 45-55 adult members of high school age through retirement age. The orchestra’s skill level is up to Grade 4 to 4 ½ music. The orchestra consists of strings, winds, and percussion but does include some non-traditional instruments such as saxophones (on occasion). Click Here for YouTube Channel

The SSO coordinates with local student groups and school ensembles, and as such, the orchestra frequently includes the opportunity for young players to participate. The next conductor should be comfortable working with young student performers as well. We perform two concerts a year, but ensembles within the orchestra also perform at community events.

Job Responsibilities:
* Choose repertoire for concerts that meets the skill level of the orchestra.
* Make the rehearsal and concert schedule for the year; on average, 8 rehearsals per concert cycle, not including dress rehearsal.
* Plan and run orchestra rehearsals every other Sunday.
* Communicate with board members, concertmaster, and orchestra members on orchestra matters.
* Support the orchestra’s purpose to serve the community through public awareness of fine arts, musicianship, and performance opportunities to those of all ages.
* Support the orchestra’s intent of making orchestral music education and experiences accessible to all.

Opportunity:
Orchestral experience preferred. This is the perfect opportunity for graduate students in conducting, orchestra members looking to increase their skills in conducting, or other directors open to conducting a growing community orchestra.

Applications will be accepted until July 1st, 2025. Then the SSO Board will conduct virtual/in person interviews of candidates. All interested persons should send resumes to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
